How to Embrace Instagram Hashtags Without the Hassle

How many Hashtags Should You Add?

Although opinions vary, most sources place the ideal number of hashtags on Instagram somewhere between 6 and 12, although you are able to include up to 30.  However, remembering and typing this many tags can be both frustrating and time consuming, so read on for our super quick solution!

For best results: We like to include ONLY 2-4 popular related hashtags in our post caption. This assures that these posts show up in busy hashtag feeds, without looking spammy.
Additional hashtags can be placed in the COMMENTS after your post is live and still be effective.

We recommend working between several different hashtag sets related to your brand's location, products or services, and target audience.  Mixing it up and showing posts to those most interested can help expand your reach!

Storing them somewhere on your phone, such as Apple's Notes app can be super helpful.  A quick copy and paste lets you grab whichever of your hashtag lists you want to use today!

It's easy to type up hashtag sets in and copy and paste them into your post or comment, but take it a step farther with this little trick for iPhones make that process even faster - allowing you to enter your hashtags in an instant!

Open the Settings App and select General

Select Keyboard, then Text Replacement

Keyboard replacement allows you to add any text as an option to replace a shortcut you make for yourself.  Click the + at the top right to make your own.

The "Phrase" will be the list of hashtags.  The "shortcut" will be a shortcut you want to type in to get those hashtags to appear.

Hint:  Don't make the shortcut a word you actually use, or you'll suddenly have a blob of hashtags every time you type it! Instead pick some keyword that you'll be able to remember, like "bendshortcut" in this example.

Test it in Instagram!  If you've done it correctly, in your autocorrect bar, your hashtags now show as a clickable list as soon as you type the shortcut.

Hint: Name your shortcuts in a consistent way so you can remember them.  For example, if you use "bendshortcuts" also use "oregonshortcuts" and "northwestshortcuts"
