Growth Strategies for Facebook

While Facebook has a massive potential reach, with over 1.5 billion daily active users, many small businesses find it hard to figure out how to convert any of those people into followers.  Below are some strategies that can make Facebook growth much less of a challenge.

Content is King

The best way to get a ton of followers is to be a famous celebrity, but given that that's not too likely in this venue, we'll focus on the next best option - creating cool content.

Informative, Inspiring, Cute & Sweet, or Funny

From cat videos to bucket list travel spots, most of the most popular content on Facebook fits into one of these 4 categories - and the best stuff, we find, bridges the gap between 2 or more.   For more ideas on content, check out:

Pay to Play (?)

Facebook really wants you to pay for advertising.  Like, really.  So the easiest way to get seen, especially before you have very many followers is simply to throw a little money at it.  This isn't 100% necessary, and if you decide to do it, you don't need to spend a lot of money, but it can help you gain some traction when your only follower is your mom. Grab some fun content and try a campaign aimed at gaining followers as seen in this video:

Up Your Interactions as a Business

Be sure to reply to comments on your posts, respond to messages, and stay on top of questions so that Facebook users see you as active and engaged.

Always Invite People to Like Your Page

There's a cool option that many businesses may not even notice where you can scroll through all of the people who may have hit the "like" button on something you posted, and invite them to follow your page.  This is free and takes but a minute.  Here's where you can find it:

Post Occasionally to Your Personal Page

Most people have upwards of 200 friends on their personal pages, so we might as well take a minute to see if any of those friends could follow our business right?  Try and find the balance between excitement over your business efforts and annoying the hell out of your friends. You can also invite people on your friends list who might be interested in your page directly, like this:

Join Some Groups, or Start Your Own

Working marketing effort into someone else's Facebook group is a subtle art, but it can be done with great effect.  Before you weasel your way into the hearts of the admins of a group, make sure to have a look at their policies with regards to advertising.  Some large groups will also accept payment for allowing a post.  Use the search bar to find groups where your customers might hang out - either based on region or interest areas.
